Title: ON THE ROCKS

Author: KANDI STEINER

Released: 13TH JUNE 2019 by KANDI STEINER

Genre: CONTEMPORARY ROMANCE

These characters had my attention from the off! I really loved Noah and Ruby Grace (well, maybe not Ruby Grace at first, but I came around). The (not so) minor characters are are also strong enough to have a story of their own! Kandi has this way of writing that just draws you in and then you’re addicted until the last drop. She always surprises you, as well. You may think you know what’s coming next, but you don’t –  trust me on this. And that is just part of her charm.

This story is one about whiskey, forbidden love, strong-minded women, and soft-hearted men. It’s also one that burrows into your soul and won’t let you go. You will feel all the emotions while reading this! I love when an author can make me laugh, cry, and want to throw the book (ahem…Kindle) at the wall all in the same story. Kandi does it every.single.time… I highly encourage you to pick this up as soon as you can because I think you’ll love it, even if it pisses you off!

Noah Becker is nothing but trouble.

That’s what Mama told me when I was a kid, kicking his pew in church and giggling at the games we’d play. It’s what the town said when his father died and the Becker brothers went wild.

And it’s on repeat in my mind the day I walk into the whiskey distillery where he works to buy a wedding gift for my fiancé.

He’s trouble.
Dirty, sweaty, rude trouble.

No matter how many times I repeat it, I can’t escape Noah in our small Tennessee town. And the more I run into him, the more he infuriates me. Because he sees what no one else does.

He sees me—the real me.

The me I’m not sure I’m allowed to be.

I’m Ruby Grace Barnett, the mayor’s daughter. Soon to be a politician’s wife, just like Mama and Daddy always wanted.  Soon to fulfill my family’s legacy, just like I always knew I would.

Until the boy everyone warned me about makes me question everything, like whether the wedding I’m planning is one I even want.

Everyone says Noah Becker is nothing but trouble.

If only I had listened.

ARC REVIEW | The Irish Lottery by Sienna Blake

Title: THE IRISH LOTTERY

Author: SIENNA BLAKE

Released: 18TH JUNE 2019 by SB PUBLISHING

Genre: CONTEMPORARY ROMANCE

This was my first Sienna Blake novel and I was not disappointed! I was surprised to find she also lives here in Dublin, though! So cool ❤

I wish my Irish story was as exciting as this! Alas, I have a pretty cute, yet bland story of my own. That being said, The Irish Lottery is so cute and worth the read! I really connected with the main character, Aubrey, and loved her connection with Noah. He’s just the best Irish character I think I’ve ever read -swoon-. I would be happy to just read about his daily life.

The plot of TIL was interesting and original, while also being completely unexpected. I couldn’t put it down for the most part. There were a few places I got a tad bored, but that’s probably only because the rest of the story was so good! The secondary characters were also very multi-faceted and I really enjoyed reading about the side relationships, as much as the main ones. I hope there are going to be other stories about the rest of the Gallagher clan! Will have to wait and see!

Keep reading for your chance to WIN!

eARC REVIEW | You’d Be Mine by Erin Hahn

Title: YOU’D BE MINE

Author: ERIN HAHN

Released: 2ND APRIL 2019 by WEDNESDAY BOOKS

Genre: TEENS + YA/CONTEMPORARY ROMANCE

Rep: POC | TWs: DRUGS, SUICIDE, DEATH, GRIEF, ALCOHOL ABUSE, SUBSTANCE ABUSE

“I wrote this song for a boy. A boy I fell in love with against impossible odds. So this award is for you, Jefferson. If I had to choose my favorite, you’d be mine.”

Oh my goodness, what a super cute story! I really loved Annie and my heart truly went out to Jefferson/Clay. It was so well-written and sweet. I felt it truly captured the modern country music scene, as well. Annie’s backstory is heartbreaking, but not too far off my own childhood. There is so much grief in this novel! Both Annie and Clay are dealing with loss in very different ways (you could actually argue he isn’t truly dealing with it) and trying to cope while also taking on the country music scene and everything that goes along with it.

The alternation of chapters really allows you to get inside both of their stories rather than being entirely one sided. This truly is a story about them both and their intertwining journey to healthy places in themselves. They are truly beautiful together and I love it. Annie worries that her relationship with Clay will end up being as co-dependent as her parents’ marriage. Clay thinks he’s not good enough for Annie, seeing her for what she’s worth. I felt that essentially tells you all you need to know about this story. There’s a lot more to it, but they are so damaged in the beginning. This story shows them allowing each other to grow, amongst several setbacks, and heal from their individual traumas. It tells a story of how people respond very differently to trauma, but, when you have support, you can overcome nearly anything.
My favourite aspect was the theme of being better than your parents were. It reminded me a lot of my own journey. My parents both had their separate issues, but I like to think I’ve overcome my upbringing to become more successful than I could have been if I’d followed either of their paths. I saw a lot of myself in Annie. I also have a parent with a drug problem and it’s hard to live with the thoughts that come with that. It’s very clear the drugs come first and children are an afterthought for those types of people. There’s nothing we (as their children) can do to change it. People have to want help before they’ll get clean. It’s definitely never easy.

I thoroughly enjoyed the addition of song lyrics. Although, I think the duet they sing is Kenny Rogers and Sheena Easton (not Dolly Parton – that was a different duet).

I’ve told so many people to add it to their lists, so if you haven’t already, go check it out. I loved this FIVE STAR read.

Annie Mathers is America’s sweetheart and heir to a country music legacy full of all the things her Gran warned her about. Superstar Clay Coolidge is most definitely going to end up one of those things.

But unfortunately for Clay, if he can’t convince Annie to join his summer tour, his music label is going to drop him. That’s what happens when your bad boy image turns into bad boy reality. Annie has been avoiding the spotlight after her parents’ tragic death, except on her skyrocketing YouTube channel. Clay’s label wants to land Annie, and Clay has to make it happen.

Swayed by Clay’s undeniable charm and good looks, Annie and her band agree to join the tour. From the start fans want them to be more than just tour mates, and Annie and Clay can’t help but wonder if the fans are right. But if there’s one part of fame Annie wants nothing to do with, it’s a high-profile relationship. She had a front row seat to her parents’ volatile marriage and isn’t interested in repeating history. If only she could convince her heart that Clay, with his painful past and head over heels inducing tenor, isn’t worth the risk.

Thank you so much to Erin Hahn and Wednesday Books via Netgalley for the ARC.

ARC REVIEW | When Summer Ends by Jessica Pennington

41bqhlagrwl._sy346_

Title: WHEN SUMMER ENDS

Author: JESSICA PENNINGTON

Released: 9TH APRIL 2019 by TOR TEEN

Genre: TEENS + YA/COMING OF AGE/CONTEMPORARY

I really loved this story. I’ve been following Jessica’s journey as an author ever since I heard about Love Songs & Other Lies, which I haven’t gotten to read yet, but will be adding it to my TBR for next month now that I’ve gotten to read this.

Olivia and Aiden trade narrating throughout. I generally love this style of writing, so I was able to immerse myself in it all the more. The perks of this style are that you get two PoV’s and so more details regarding various scenes, but this can be a serious downside if one of the characters is boring. Luckily, Jessica writes amazing characters, so I was happy to read both PoV’s throughout the novel. The pacing of the story was also really great. It was quick enough that I was able to read it fairly quickly, but still detailed enough that I felt I could nearly step into their story. 10 points for storytelling!

Olivia learns early in the story that her aunt, whom she lives with, has taken a new position in a different state – taking Olivia away from her hometown right before her senior year of high school unless she can find an alternative. She asks her boyfriend, Zander, if they can talk to his parents about her living with them. Said conversation doesn’t go to plan. Aiden is the varsity pitcher of the baseball team, and also Zander’s teammate. Aiden, it turns out, is having some issues with his pitching, so quits the team and takes a job with his family’s business – River Depot. Where Olivia ends up getting a summer job!

I think the bit I struggled with most was her mother re-entering the scene. I have had a tense (non-existentent) relationship with my own mother for more than a few years now. Obviously, it wasn’t the same situation, but I don’t believe I would have been able to forgive mine so quickly or easily as Olivia did in the novel.

I really enjoyed the setting of River Depot because it’s exactly the kind of place I would have loved to work at during the when I was in high school! It is quintessential summer on the river. This was a cute summer story with some heavy topics explored throughout. I felt some of it deep in my soul… There are a few themes I’ve struggled with in my own life, such as abandonment by a parent as well as the vision issues, so that was a bit hard for me. Made me relate to Olivia and Aiden, and I think it made me love it even more. Pennington explored those topics very well and I can’t wait to see what she writes next!

Had to be a FIVE STAR read for me.

Two teenagers discover how an unexpected turn of fate can bring new love to heal old wounds in Jessica Pennington’s stunning, romantic YA novel When Summer Ends.

Aiden Emerson is an all-star pitcher and the all-around golden boy of Riverton. Or at least he was, before he quit the team the last day of junior year without any explanation. How could he tell people he’s losing his vision at seventeen?

Straight-laced Olivia thought she had life all figured out. But when her dream internship falls apart, her estranged mother comes back into her life, and her long-time boyfriend ghosts her right before summer break, she’s starting to think fate has a weird sense of humor.

Each struggling to find a new direction, Aiden and Olivia decide to live summer by chance. Every fleeting adventure and stolen kiss is as fragile as a coin flip in this heartfelt journey to love and self-discovery from the author of Love Songs & Other Lies.

Thank you so much to Jessica Pennington and Tor Teen via Netgalley for the ARC.

RELEASE BLITZ: Review and an Excerpt of Moore Than a Feeling by Julie A. Richman

Just when you thought there wasn’t any MOORE…

From USA Today bestselling author Julie A. Richman, comes a companion title to her Needing Moore series. MOORE THAN A FEELING is now available! Grab your copy of MOORE THAN A FEELING today!

Welcome to my stop on the release blitz of Moore Than a Feeling by Julie A. Richman! This is hosted by Inkslinger PR who have been absolutely lovely. Moore Than a Feeling was really sweet and full of very emotionally charged content. I really enjoyed reaching this, but would recommend reading the box set first to get the details and backstory on the supporting characters involved. Holly is such a wonderful character – loving, supportive, forgiving, and unafraid to go after what she wants. She’s got a great relationship with her family, but will still stand up for herself, even if it means a strained relationship. She’s fantastic. Reminds me of myself, only 100x better.

Aiden is also a great character, albeit stubborn. He’s so stand up and ethical – although that works against him, too. I kinda have a crush 😍 I’m glad the story worked out the way it did, but also feel some of the scenes could have been more substantial. Also, would have liked a bit more from Aiden’s perspective.

Finally, I love Pierce. I’m so glad he was part of this story. He might be my favourite…

If you like stories of second chances, forgiveness, and romance, you’ll love this one. And don’t worry if you’ve never read the Needing Moore series! This is a companion that can be read separately, or you can just grab the box set on Amazon here (it’s free in Kindle Unlimited)! Happy reading!

About MOORE THAN A FEELING:

“Holly and Aiden broke up? Seriously? No way. Not those two.”

Dumped.
No, not only dumped.
Blindsided and dumped.

I thought that Aiden McManus was my forever, my soulmate,
That was until he told me he was still in love with his ex.

I didn’t want to believe him.
So, I convinced myself that our break-up was because of his upcoming deployment,
and not because he didn’t love me.
Believing that, helped me get through those first months.

But after a while, I realized I just might be lying to myself.
And it was time to move on…

So, I moved on. Or tried to move on, anyway.
But that didn’t work out so well for me, either.
And it practically got me disowned from my family.

After that, I finally started to get my life back together,
I had everything back under control…
…Or so I thought.

Until I found out Aiden was back

And now he’s everywhere I turn,
Still pushing me away,
telling me he doesn’t want me.

But every time he calls me Angel or reaches out to touch my cheek,
I know what he’s not admitting to himself –
He still loves me.

And I’m going to prove it to him.

EXCERPT:

“Busted,” he whispered in her ear, coming up from behind, just as Holly sent a text to Mia saying, Anything?

Sticking her phone into the back pocket of her worn jeans shorts, Holly smiled at Jenna’s very handsome older brother, Pierce. Man buns were not usually her thing, and pulling one off was reserved for seriously hot men, but this guy totally rocked it. With a casual, laid-back vibe, a few days’ scruff, a very colorful full-sleeve of ink on his left arm, and hazel eyes that leaned more toward green than brown, rimmed in enviably long, dark lashes, this man was hard not to notice.

Holly immediately felt eyes on them — from everywhere. The glare of all the other single women at the party felt like an undertow of bitchy female energy, making Holly feel more alone than she already did. Alone in a crowd was not an alien feeling to her, though it would probably surprise most people. It generally took Holly a long time to find her crowd, and it typically wasn’t what people might expect her to gravitate toward.

“It’s a party. You gotta mingle.” His accent was thick New York. He took a swig of his beer. “Or I could just keep you to myself,” he flirted.

Feeling self-conscious, she changed the subject to neutral ground. “This is my first time in Carroll Gardens. I’ve been in Brooklyn a bunch of times, mostly in the Heights. We have a close family friend there, but I’ve never walked this far down. I love all these brownstones, and the outdoor space your sister has is amazing. Do you live nearby?” She was rambling, and she wasn’t sure if it was because she was so uncomfortable or because he was so good-looking.

Jenna’s ground-level-floor-thru apartment had exclusive use of the small rectangular yard, which held enough space for a grill and fifteen guests. At the very back of the yard she had a plastic blow-up kiddie pool filled with water. Holly wondered if, as the afternoon heat and humidity climbed, the party-goers would be stepping in to cool themselves off.

Taking a swig from his beer bottle, Pierce shared, “Not too far. I’m in the Slope. No private backyard, but I’m not too far from Prospect Park.”

“That must be nice.” Trying hard to stay in the moment, Holly searched her brain for something to say to this handsome, seemingly nice guy, and her mind just blanked out.

“So, let me ask you a question,” he began, filling in the silence. “My sister tells me you’re not involved with anyone. How is that possible?”

Holly smiled, Pierce had obviously been inquiring about her. New Yorkers were so direct. That had initially taken some getting used to, but it was actually refreshing, and moved things from superficial to real at warp speed, and that was something she liked. “Bad break-up. Still recuperating.”

“Is he fucking nuts?” Pierce took another swig.

Watching his throat muscles and Adam’s apple in motion was oddly erotic. Maybe it’s the sheen of sweat covering them, Holly thought, followed immediately by the memory of Aiden’s salty skin waking the taste buds on her tongue.

“I’ll volunteer to be your transition guy,” offered Pierce with a smile.

“Thanks. Appreciate the offer, but you’re a little late to the party.” Holly laughed.

“Well, he’s not here, what happened to that guy?” Pierce was persistent.

Reaching out and taking the beer from his hands, Holly took a swig. “I think we’re going to need some Jack for that story.”

“You, I like.” He laughed. “I don’t think my sister’s got any, but there’s a liquor store up on Court Street, we can take a walk up there and get a bottle.”

“Let’s do it.” Holly wanted to get away from the stare of female eyes that were taking on an increasingly hostile glare, especially those of a brunette who was going to regret her dark microbladed eyebrows when, in a few years, she looked back at pictures of herself.

As they walked down Second Place, Holly asked, “So, what’s with you and the lady in the revealing pink halter.”

Pierce started to laugh and began to cough. “Holly, that ain’t no lady.”

“No? Now I’m intrigued. I’ll bet you have a lot better stories than I have.”

“I don’t know how she got an invite today. She’s my version of a stalker.”

“Did you deserve it?”

He thought for a moment. “Yeah, probably.”

“Drive-by?”

“Yeah, I couldn’t pull out fast enough.”

Holly’s eyes widened, as she looked at him, the front of her sandal catching on the uneven sidewalk. Reaching out and catching her shoulder, Pierce steadied her.

“Oh shit, that didn’t come out the way I wanted it to.”
