Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.
This weeks prompt was Books with Sensory Reading Memories, so the books that are linked to very specific memories for you: where you were, what time of year it was, who you were with, what you were eating, etc. Ideas include books you read while on vacation, books that made you hungry for certain foods, books you’ve buddy read with loved ones, etc. (Submitted by Jessica @ A Cocoon of Books)
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone/Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets/Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban – J.K. Rowling
Reminds me of being a kid. I grew up with the series… I specifically remember being at home and we had a ‘present cabinet’ way up high. I was nearly 8 and my mom bought the first three books for my birthday present, but ended up giving them to me early because she couldn’t wait to give them to me! Thus began my obsession with everything HP.
The Outsiders – S.E Hinton
Takes me back to 8th grade English. I can remember being in class and wanting to read ahead of the recording we listened to because it wasn’t fast enough! I’m pretty sure I went home and finished it the first night I had it then got to re-read during class, so that was great!! I still love that story… Stay gold, Ponyboy. Stay gold.
Catcher in the Rye – J.D. Salinger
10th grade A.P. English. I wanted to get the red cover book again for ages afterwards, but never did find it. I like the cover I have now, though!
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – J.K. Rowling
I totally got in trouble over this book. I stayed up until 6am one morning reading it and got it taken away. Then borrowed a copy from a friend to finish reading it and got grounded when my stepmother found it at the bottom of a drawer in my closet. I’m pretty sure it wasn’t a school night, sonot sure why I got in trouble in the first place. Anyway, that’s my major memory of that.
The Christmas Sweater – Glenn Beck
Read this Christmas day 2 yearsin a row. It was a Christmas present one year, and I finished the whole thing while sitting on Nana’s (my stepmother’s dad’s) couch waiting for dinner to be ready. Did the same the year after. No idea where it is now!
Anne of Green Gables –L.M. Montgomery
Going to Nana’s (dad’s mom) and the used bookshop. I would go over to my grandmother’s at least once a month, and we always went to dinner before used book store and Blockbuster. I got the entire series used over a period of time. These were some of my favourite childhood memories…
Nancy Drew series – Carolyn Keene
So, the Nancy Drew series used to be carried by Costco in sets of 6 consequent books wrapped in clingfilm. Gram and Nani used to give me sets of the series for birthdays and christmas for a couple of years while Iwas young. I LOVED it!!
A Dog‘s Purpose– W. Bruce Cameron
While I worked in a dog and cat boarding kennel in Australia, I would listen to audiobooks while cleaning. I will never forget cleaning the cattery and listening to this book. I think I nearly cried every time I was listening to it!!
